Water!

Water needs to be conserved.  We need water to survive, if we don't have water than we don't survive.  We need water to grow our crops and process our food.  We need it to fish, for cooking, putting out fires, and generating electricity (hydro).  In some states water is a limited resource.  Local rainfall varies though out.  Water conservation is almost always the least costly water supply alternative.  Sometimes our sinks and toilets have leaks, we can fix these leaks and save our water! You can tell your sinks have leaks when they are forming rust on them, like shown in these pictures.  As a community to conserve water we can fallow the rule that states people can only water there grass on certain days.  We don't have to wash our side walks and driveways and parking lot areas.  If we can we can stop water from flowing down streets and alleys.  We can all save our water if we wanted to.

Biofules Impact Food Production!

            Bio fuels do impact our food production.  Bio fuels have to do with growing food to turn into fuel.  If we our growing food to turn into fuel who is keeping our food production going? Are we using all the food for fuel?  In this blog you will read about why I think biofuels impact our food production.

          In an article called 'UN: Farmers must produce 70% more food by 2050 to feed population.' there was a fact that was farmers have to produce 70% more food to meet the needs of the worlds expectation of 9-billion-strong  population.  25% of the worlds farmland is now "highly degraded" with soil erosion water degradation and biodiversity loss. Ground water can become more polluted by agricultural runoff and other toxins.  In another article called 'Tale of two farms in Brazil' says that pesticides from big farmlands jump to the smaller farm lands, and bugs from nearby soy fields migrate onto their lands also.

        "The process of growing the crops, making fertilizers and pesticides, and processing the plants into fuel consumes a lot of energy." Says an article called 'Biofuels: the original car fuel".  Bio fuels don't replace as much oil as they use.  If we are planting twice as many crops than that is twice as much energy we are using.  We would have to back down on some of planting crops to reduce our energy usage.  At www.foodpolitics.com there are some facts and comments about foods and ethanol.  One of the facts that caught my attention was government energy policies require an increasing percentage of gasoline to contain ethanol each year. And more than 40% of U.S. corn is grown for ethanol.  One of the comments was "waive the ethanol quota for the sake of poor people in poor countries.

       The last few information that I looked over was 'Fuel choices, food crises, and finger pointing.'  This article is saying that the growth of bio fuels has contributed to higher food prices, and people worry about feeding the people in developing countries.  If the prices for food keep going up the people wont be able to afford them and many may die of starvation. The food prices increased 10-15%. 


        This is why I think that bio fuels impact food production. There is an impact by the increasing use of bio fuels upon food production.  According to this information that was provided bio fuels have an impact on food production. 

Pesticides are used to kill insects and weeds on plants.  We use pesticides to try to keep the insects from eating the plants.  If we let the insects eat the plants then they will go bad and die.  I think it is also dangerous because sometimes people forget to wash there fruits and vegetables before they eat them and some of the pesticide  is on them, that could be dangerous to our health.

Prosperity, Pemeability, Retention Oh yes! (:

Ugh i am so mad >:( I just wrote the longest blog ever and then I pressed back :(.  Well here we go again. 

Prosperity is the volume of water that fits between the soil particles.  Permeability is the rate of the flow of water that goes through the soil.  Retention is how much water is trapped by soil.  Porosity and permeability are directly related, when one is high then the other is high as well.  The water retention is inversely related to both, that mean its the opposite of whatever the porosity and permeability so if there high then the retention is low.  I think that someone should care about these property's of soil because we need to know about the soils to know where to plant our crops and if we don't know about them then we wouldn't plant crops right and we would be hungry.

Im reading a book :)

So I'm reading a book called Isaac's Storm.  Its basically about a guy named Isaac Cline and he thinks he knows all there is to know about the motion of clouds and the behavior of storms.  This book takes place in the 1900's. Isaac was from Galveston, Texas.  In the book it talks about a heat wave that kills a ton of people in New York. So this book is about weather and storms and about the environment.

My passion :)

I have passion for music. I absolutely love to sing. Ever since I was a little girl I always imagined myself singing in front of a huge crowd. If I could I would definitely make singing my career.  I would love to write my own songs and send a message to other people and inspire them. Not a day goes by that I don't sing. I'm in varsity choir right now and hope I make madrigals next year :).  Singing is my life and my passion. Nothing will change that. I will sing everyday for the rest of my life. ;)
